Former NIU and SIU head football coach Jerry Kill is stepping down. The current Minnesota coach announced yesterday that he is retiring due to health concerns.
The 54-year-old has epilepsy and says he had two seizures in the past week. He's missed parts of four games during his first five seasons as coach of the Golden Gophers because of seizures. Kill also battled kidney cancer in 2005.
Kill's record in college was (156-102). He was (29-29) at Minnesota.
Defensive Coordinator Tracy Claeys has been named interim head coach. He has been with Kill as an assistant coach for the past 21 years.
