Carlos Beltran's three-run homer in the third inning was all the offense the Yankees would need in their 3-2 win over the White Sox at Yankee Stadium. New York took the opener of the four-game set to move three games within the Blue Jays for first in the AL East. Michael Pineda improved to 12-and-8 with six runs of one-run ball and Andrew Miller grabbed his 35th save. Chris Sale gave up the home run to take his 11th loss of the season. Trayce Thompson hit a solo shot and drove in two for Chicago.
Game #2 of the series is tonight in New York.
