Starlin Castro went 3-for-3 with two homers and six RBI as the Cubs slugged their way to an 8-3 win over the Cardinals at Wrigley Field. Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-3 with an RBI as Chicago won its fourth straight. Tommy Hunter retired the only batter he faced in relief to get the win. The Cubs are now six games behind St. Louis in the NL Central. Seth Maness surrendered three runs in an inning-plus to take the loss. Brandon Moss collected three hits in defeat. Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday left in the fifth inning after being hit in the head by a Dan Haren fastball. Manager Mike Matheny and righty Matt Belisle were each ejected for hitting Rizzo in the seventh.
Both teams return to Wrigley Field this afternoon for Game #2 of the series.
