Chicago Baseball

Anthony Rizzo's go-ahead, two-run homer ignited a six-run fifth inning as the Cubs outslugged the Pirates 9-6 at PNC Park. Reliever Clayton Richard added a two-run double in the frame and also got credit for the win despite allowing two runs in three-and-a-third innings out of the pen. Travis Wood struck out five over the final two frames to notch his second save. Charlie Morton was roughed up for nine hits and six runs in four-plus innings to fall to 9-and-8 with the loss. Travis Snider, Gregory Polanco and Pedro Alvarez all homered for Pittsburgh, which lost three-of-four in the series.

Cubs open up a series at home today against St. Louis.

AvisailGarcia failed to rob Billy Butler of a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning as the Athletics rallied for a 4-2 win over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.  Garcia leaped at the wall and briefly snagged Butler's drive before it came out of his glove on the other side of the fence for a three-run homer that erased a 2-1 deficit for Oakland.  Marcus Semien singled in the A's other run in the third.  Sean Doolittle pitched two shutout innings to get the win.  David Robertson blew the save and took the loss.  Mike Olt homered and Melky Cabrera singled in a run for Chicago in defeat.

The White Sox will be in Cleveland tonight to begin a 3-game series.
