Jake Arrieta won his eighth straight start as the Cubs dumped the Phillies, 5-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park. Arrieta tossed eight frames of one-run ball to earn his MLB-leading 19th win. Austin Jackson, Kris Bryant, and Addison Russell all had RBI-doubles for the Cubs, with Starlin Castro going deep in the win. Philadelphia's Adam Morgan gave up four runs in five-plus to take the loss. Aaron Altherr had a solo shot for the Phils.
The Cubs took game two as well, 7-3, behind two homers from Kyle Schwarber and one from Bryant. Ted Hendricks scattered four hits and three runs over six-and-two-thirds to earn the win for the North Siders. Alec Asher gave up six runs and seven hits to fall to 0-and-3 for the Phillies in their third straight loss.
