One week before the season opener, the University of Illinois is parting ways with head football coach Tim Beckman. Athletic Director Mike Thomas announced Beckman has been fired amid allegations he influenced medical decisions and pressured players into playing hurt.
Beckman was (12-25) at Illinois which included a (6-7) record last season and a bowl game.
He will not received 3.1 million dollars left on his final 2 years of his contract or the $743,000 buyout.
Offensive coordinator Bill Cubit will serve as the team's interim coach. Illinois kicks off the 2015 season next Friday at home against Kent State.
