The opening ceremony will be held today in Toronto for the 2015 Parapan American Games.
15-year old Aubrey Headon of Rochelle will be part of the USA team in the event. Aubrey is 1 of 20 women to be part of the USA Squad. She is also 1 of 2 athletes , male or female, representing Illinois at the games.
Headon will be involved in the 100 meter and 200 meter track races that are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. She will be part of the largest international competition before the World Championships in October.
The 5th edition of the Parapan American Games will have over 16 hundred athletes from 28 countries competing in 15 sports.
The competition in the events begins on Saturday.
The 3rd Annual Fairways Golf Championship will be held this Saturday and Sunday in Rochelle.
The Men's Championship flight will be 54 holes with 27 holes being played each day. The other flights for men and women will be 36 holes or 18 holes each day.
Andy Wilkinson won last year's Championship Flight. He has won tournaments 4 out of the last 6 years at the Rochelle golf course.
Andy will not be playing this weekend as he moved to Florida.
The high school football season begins in Illinois on Monday.
It's the first official day teams in the state can practise as they prepare for the 2015 season.
The first games will be played on Friday, August 28th and Saturday, August 29th.
Newstalk 1060 and wrhl.net will be broadcasting 2 games that weekend.
On Friday night, the Rochelle Hubs play at home against Chicago Corliss.
Saturday afternoon, the Winnebago Indians host St. Joseph-Ogden.
"The Coyote" and 1023thecoyote.com will also broadcast a game on Friday night. The AFC Raiders play at Forreston against the defending Class 1A Champion Cardinals.
Practice for the other fall sports teams at schools in Illinois starts next Wednesday.
