Jake Arrieta homered and tossed a complete game to lead the Cubs past the White Sox 3-1, avoiding a three-game sweep at Wrigley Field. Arrieta struck out nine while giving up just one run on two hits and no walks as he moved to 10-and-5. Kris Bryant tripled in a run in the first inning and then scored on Jorge Soler's RBI-single one batter later for the Cubs, who end the first half of the season third in the NL Central at 47-and-40. Chicago currently holds the second Wild Card spot. Adam Eaton plated the lone run for the White Sox, who sit last in the AL Central at 41-and-45. Jose Quintana slipped to 4-and-9 after allowing all three runs in seven-and-a-third.
