The NHL is raising its salary cap nearly two-million dollars next season. The cap is being set at 71.4-million, which is up from last year's 69-million-dollar ceiling. The least a team can spend in salary is also being raised to 52.8-million. Free agency begins July 1st.
The Chicago Blackhawks are expected to make several roster moves to meet the salary cap for next season. The 1st veteran player to go may be Patrick Sharp.
NHL general managers have agreed to make changes to the regular-season overtime format. The GMs pushed forward a recommendation to change the five-minute period to a 3-on-3 format. The recommendation is scheduled to be voted on by the Board of Governors today.
