Kyle Hendricks fanned seven in five frames of one-run ball before the game was delayed for nearly three hours in the fifth inning due to rain. Jason Motte improved to 3-and-1 in relief as Chicago picked up its fifth win in seven games. Eugenio Suarez hit a two-run home run while Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a solo shot in defeat.
