Chris Sale struck out 14 to lead the White Sox past the Astros, 3-1, in the opener of a three-game series at U.S. Cellular Field. Sale became the first pitcher in franchise history with four straight starts of 10-plus punch-outs. He gave up just one run on five hits and a walk over eight innings as he improved to 6-and-2. David Robertson pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save. Avisail Garcia clubbed a two-run homer and Melky Cabrera plated the other run for the Southsiders, who snapped a two-game skid. Carlos Correa, the first overall pick in 2012, drove in the lone run for the Astros on an infield single in his Major League debut. Lance McCullers yielded all three runs in seven frames as he slipped to 2-and-1 with his first career loss. Houston has dropped a season-high five straight.
Game #2 of the series is tonight in Chicago as it can be heard on Newstalk 1060.
