The Cubs pounded out 14 hits in a 6-3 victory over the Nationals in Washington. Chris Coghlan and Starlin Castro each plated a pair of runs, while Jonathan Herrera added an RBI single in the fourth. Kyle Hendricks improved to 2-and-2 with five innings of work, and Jason Motte earned the save. Chicago took three of four in the series. Jordan Zimmermann allowed four runs in five innings to fall to 5-and-3. Ian Desmond clubbed a two-run shot and Yunel Escobar drove in a run as Washington fell for the fifth time in six games.
The Cubs have the day off today. They open up a series in Detroit on Tuesday.
