Jason Hammel pitched into the ninth inning as the Cubs cut down the Nationals, 4-2, in Washington. Hammel fanned seven while allowing two runs and five hits to improve to 5-and-2. Pedro Strop closed it out for his second save. Dexter Fowler had two hits and scored twice for the Cubs, who have won two of three in the four-game set. Wilson Ramos and Bryce Harper belted solo homers for the Nats. Joe Ross allowed three runs in five frames to suffer the loss in his MLB debut.
