Chicago Baseball

 J.B. Schuck's sac-fly RBI in the eighth lifted the White Sox to a 3-2 win over the Twins in the opener of a three-game set in Chicago. Geovany Soto smacked a two-run double in the fourth for the Sox, who put the brakes on a three-game skid. Jeff Samardzija  fanned nine over eight innings of two-run, three-hit ball to improve to 4-and-2. David Robertson earned his ninth save. Joe Mauer and Trevor Plouffe plated a run apiece in the first for Minnesota, which had won its previous two. Aaron Thompson took the loss.

Game 2 of the series is this afternoon. The Pre-Game Show begins at 2:35 on Newstalk 1060.

The White Sox will also retire Paul Konerko's #14 today during a ceremony.

 

Nick Ahmed's RBI single in the bottom of the 13th gave the Diamondbacks a 5-4 win over the Cubs in the opener of a three-game set in Arizona.  Ahmed also smacked a solo homer for the D'backs, who have five in-a-row.  Paul Goldschmidt laced an RBI single in the firs and belted a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th.  Randall Delgado earned his second win.  Dexter Fowler drilled a solo homer, while Kris Bryant and Starlin Castro plated a run apiece in the 10th for the Cubs.  Zac Rosscup took the loss.
