Chicago Baseball

Danny Salazar tossed six shutout innings with eight strikeouts helping the Indians beat the White Sox, 5-2, at U.S. Cellular Field. Salazar improved to 5-and-1 as Cleveland took three of four from Chicago. Mike Aviles went 4-for-5 with a home run in the victory. Cleveland is 17-and-23. John Danks gave up five runs on six hits with four walks in five-and-one-third innings to take the loss. Tyler Flowers hit a two-run homer in the ninth to avoid the shutout. The White Sox are 18-and-20.

White Sox play the Twins tonight. Pre-Game Show at 6:35 on Newstalk 1060.

 

Kyle Hendricks pitched a complete-game gem for the Cubs in a 3-0 shutout of the Padres at Petco Park.  Hendricks struck out seven and gave up five hits in his first win of the year.  Kris Bryant blasted a two-run homer in the first inning, and Addison Russell had a solo shot to provide the scoring for the Cubs.  Chicago took the rubber match of the three-game set.  Will Middlebrooks notched two of the Padres five hits in the loss.  Odrisamer Despaigne  lost this third straight start, and the Padres have lost five of the past six. 

The Cubs will be in Arizona tonight.
