A.J. Burnett tossed seven scoreless innings as the Pirates blanked the Cubs, 3-0, in Chicago. Burnett fanned seven en route to improving to 3-and-1. The veteran is the first Pirate since 1900 to allow two or fewer runs in his first eight starts. Francisco Cervelli, Neil Walker and Starling Marte plated the runs to help the Pirates stop a four-game skid. Jake Arrieta struck out seven, but allowed a run in seven frames to fall to 4-and-4 with the tough-luck loss. Chicago had its winning streak stopped at six.
The Cubs have the day off today. They play in San Diego Tuesday night.
