Chicago Baseball

After blowing a 7-2 fifth-inning lead, Elian Herrera clubbed a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Brewers past the White Sox 10-7 at Miller Park. Khris Davis added a pinch-hit solo shot later in the eighth for the Crew in their third win in-a-row. Carlos Gomez added a two-run homer in the victory. Jonathan Broxton picked up his first win after blowing the lead in the eighth. Francisco Rodriguez closed it out for his seventh save. Adam Eaton went 4-for-5 and drove in two, including the tying run in the eighth for Chicago. Geovany Soto smacked a two-run homer for the Sox, who have dropped three of five. Zach Duke suffered the loss.

Game #2 of the series is tonight in Milwaukee.

 

Kris Bryant belted a two-run homer as the Cubs clipped the Mets, 4-3, in the opener of a four-game set at Wrigley Field.  Anthony Rizzo launched a solo shot and Addison Russell added an RBI single for Chicago, which improved to 16-and-15.  Jon Lester fanned six in six innings of three-run ball to move to 3-and-2.  Hector Rondon secured his seventh save.  Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores hit solo homers for the Mets.  Jacob deGrom allowed all four runs in five frames to fall to 3-and-4.

Gme #2 of the 4-game series is tonight at Wrigley Field. The left field bleachers were open for the 1st time last night for fans as the renovation project continues at the ball park.
