Yoenis Cespedes homered twice and drove in six as the Tigers trounced the White Sox, 9-1, in the rubber match of a three-game set in Detroit. Cespedes hit a grand slam in the first and added a two-run shot in the second for Detroit, which improved to 10-and-2 on the year. Shane Greene fired seven innings of one-run ball to up his recored to 3-and-0. Jose Abreu tripled in Chicago's only run in the sixth. Jose Quintana was rocked for all nine runs and 10 hits in five-plus innings to fall to 1-and-1.
White Sox are at home tonight as they open up a 3-game series against Cleveland.
The Padres scored five unanswered runs to capture a 5-2 win over the Cubs in the rubber match of a three-game set at Wrigley Field. Will Middlebrooks and Yangervis Solarte each smacked two-run homers for San Diego, which upped its record to 8-and-5. Andrew Cashner allowed only two unearned runs in six frames to earn his first win. Joaquin Benoit closed it out for his first save. Jorge Soler and Chris Coghlan plated a run apiece in the first for Chicago. Jon Lester gave up three runs in five-and-a-third innings to fall to 0-and-2.
