The Oakland Athletics used a
six-run eighth inning to pull ahead in their 10-4 win over the
Chicago White Sox in Cactus League action.
Jason Pridie hit a two-run home run, and Max Muncy cleared the
bases with a double in the decisive inning. Billy Burns collected
four hits and scored three runs.
Oakland's Scott Kazmir was sharp, striking out four in 5 1/3
scoreless innings. His counterpart, Jose Quintana, allowed two runs
-- one earned -- in six innings with five strikeouts.
Jose Abreu, the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year, had two
hits for Chicago.
Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta's
three-run homer led a seven-run first inning that catapulted the
Chicago Cubs to an 18-4 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday
in spring training.
Rockies starter Jon Gray gave up all seven runs in the first inning
while retiring just two batters before he was taken out.
Arrieta went four scoreless innings, giving up three hits and no
walks while striking out five.
The Cubs banged out 21 hits in the game.
Todd Frazier hit a three-run
home run and drove in four to guide the Cincinnati Reds in a 9-5
win over the Chicago Cubs in spring training action on Saturday.
Brennan Boesch hit a solo home run and drove in three and Marlon
Byrd went 2- for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Reds.
Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in his one inning on the mound.
Dexter Fowler hit a solo home run and Junior Lake drove in two for
the Cubs. Gonzalez Germen was tagged for four runs on four hits
with three walks while recording just two outs in the first inning.
