The Chicago Bears added
secondary depth on Friday by signing cornerback Alan Ball to a
one-year contract.
Ball, 29, spent the past two seasons with Jacksonville, starting 22
games. He missed the final nine games in 2014 because of a biceps
injury.
A seventh-round pick by Dallas in 2007, Ball has registered 216
tackles and six interceptions in 93 career games (44 starts) with
the Cowboys, Texans and Jaguars.
The Chicago Cubs hit four home runs
off their former Opening Day starter, Jeff Samardzija, in their 6-3
win over the Chicago White Sox.
Jorge Soler, Starlin Castro, Chris Coghlan and Anthony Rizzo all
took Samardzija deep, as he allowed six runs in six innings despite
striking out nine.
Jason Hammel, who was traded to Oakland last summer along with
Samardzija before returning to the Cubs in the offseason, allowed
two runs in six innings.
Tyler Flowers and Melky Cabrera hit home runs for the White Sox.
