Rapheal Davis scored 18
points as the Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Illinois Fighting
Illini, 63-58, in a Big Ten Conference tilt at Mackey Arena.
AJ Hammons added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Boilermakers
(20-11, 12-6 Big Ten). Jon Octeus contributed 11 points as Purdue
ended a two-game losing streak.
As for the Fighting Illini (19-12, 9-9), Rayvonte Rice scored 25
points and Malcolm Hill added 15 as they had a two-game win streak
snapped.
Illinois shot 47.8 percent from the field and outrebounded Purdue
18-14 as the visitors too a 26-21 lead at the break. The
Boilermakers shot just 30.4 percent from the field but the bench
outscored the Fighting Illini reserves 7-0 in the period.
In the second half Purdue converted 52.4 percent from the field and
connected on 16-of-18 chances at the free-throw line, en route to
the five-point win. Illinois scored 14 points off of 13 Boilermaker
turnovers but only converted on 2-of-123-point shots.
Purdue, which suffered 20 turnovers and shot only 6-of-18 beyond
the arc, connected on 21-of-26 free throws.
