NIU Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Sean Frazier
Officials at NIU in DeKalb introduced their future athletics facility master plan today which involves the entire sports program. Estimated costs at the present time is at 138 million dollars.
The proposal includes new facilities for Baseball, Tennis, and an Olympic Sports Venue. Upgrades will also take place for Huskie Stadium, the Convocation Center, along with the Softball facility and the Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
NIU Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Sean Frazier said that the project for Huskie Stadium includes suites and club seating on the east side of the facility.
There will be seating for around 65 hundred fans in the south end zone area as the statium will be enclosed.
The additional seating would bring the total for Huskie Stadium to 30 to 35,000 fans with a maximum amount of 42,000.
Work on the west side includes restrooms, concession areas, along with the press box.
Frazier said that private donations will pay for the entire facility project.
The new baseball stadium would be located northeast of the Convocation Center.
Frazier said that they will most likely announce in the spring which project will be done 1st.
