The Royals are headed to the postseason for the first time since 1985 after a 3-1 win over the White Sox from U.S. Cellular Field. It ends the longest postseason drought of the four major North American sports. Jeremy Guthrie tossed seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts to improve to 13-and-11 while Greg Holland shut the door for his 46th save. Billy Butler was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Alcides Escobar went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Kansas City is just one game back of the Tigers for the top spot in the AL Central. Hector Noesi gave up three runs over six innings and fell to 8-and-12 for Chicago. Alexei Ramirez drove in a run for the Sox, who have lost four straight.
