Lorenzo Cain went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer as the Royals defeated the White Sox 6-2 in the rubber match of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Alcides Escobar added a solo shot and scored twice for the Royals, who moved within a half-game of the Tigers for first place in the AL Central. Detroit lost 8-4 in Minnesota on Wednesday. Yordano Ventura struck out seven over seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball to up his mark to 13-and-10. Adam Eaton and Alexei Ramirez plated a run each for Chicago. Chris Sale slipped to 12-and-4 after allowing five runs in five frames.
The White Sox have the day off. They play Tampa Bay in Florida on Friday night.
