It took NIU Head Football Coach Rod Carey 1 game to name is starting quarterback for the beginning of the 2014 season.
Carey said Tuesday that Junior Matt McIntosh will start against Northwestern Saturday afternoon in Evanston.
McIntosh did start against Presbyterian last Thursday and played the 1st quarter and the 1st series of the 2nd quarter. He was 10-14 for 87 yards and a touchdown.
Drew Hare and Anthony Maddie, both Sophomores, also played at quarterback last week. Hare threw for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Carey said it's time to name a starting quarterback for NIU and that McIntosh had separated himself enough in how he operated the team to give him the nod right now.
Kick-off is set for 2:30 in Evanston on Saturday. Northwestern holds a (6-0-1) advantage in the series against NIU.
