Chris Sale struck out 13 over seven innings of three-run ball as the White Sox doubled up the Tigers 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader at U.S. Cellular Field. Sale moved to 11-and-3 while Jake Petricka grabbed his 10th save. Adam Dunn hit a two-run homer while Tyler Flowers added a solo shot. Jose Abreu was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run as Chicago won for just the second time in 11 games. Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer for Detroit and Ian Kinsler notched a solo blast. Max Scherzer fanned 11 over six-and-two-thirds innings while allowing six runs, five earned. He fell to 15-and-5 as the Tigers lost just their second in seven games.
Ian Kinsler knocked in three runs to guide the Tigers to an 8-4 win over the White Sox and a doubleheader split at U.S. Cellular Field. Kinsler, Don Kelly and Ezequiel Carrera had three hits each for Detroit, which has won three of four. Kyle Ryan tossed six innings of shutout ball to win his MLB debut. Chris Bassitt gave up five runs in six-and-a-third innings to lose his MLB debut. Dayan Viciedo hit a three-run homer. The Sox won 6-3 in the opener.
