Justin Verlander struck out eight over seven innings of one-run ball as the Tigers downed the White Sox 7-1 at U.S. Cellular Field. Verlander improved to 12-and-11 while Torii Hunter and Ian Kinsler each drove in two runs. J.D. Martinez was 3-for-5 with a run as Detroit won its fifth in six games. Scott Carroll fell to 5-and-9 after going five-plus innings and allowing seven runs, three earned. Adam Eaton and Jose Abreu each had three hits while Adam Dunn knocked in a run. Chicago has dropped nine of its last ten games.
