Wilkinson win 2nd straight Fairways Golf Championship

Andy Wilkinson of Rochelle blew away the field on Sunday as he won by 20 shots and his 2nd straight win at the 2nd annual Fairways Golf Championship held in the Hub City.

Wilkinson shot a 10 under par 188 which appears to be a new record for a 54-hole tournament at the Rochelle golf course. This included a 2nd 18 hole 7 under par 59 which was 1 shot off the course record.

Wilkinson, who said he won't be back to defend his title next year, has won tournaments in 4 of the last 6 years at the Rochelle course.

He said his wedge play and putting were the keys for his win this weekend.

Finishing in 2nd place in the Championship flight was Jon Woeppel with a 208 total or 10 over par. Jared Johnson finished in 3rd place and Thomas Brennan in 4th.

The Men's Senior Championship Flight was won by Bob Johns. He shot 73 and 78 for a 151 36-hole total. That was 10 shots better than Jim Peters and Bill Mattingly of Oregon. Peters parred the 3rd playoff hole against Mattingly to take home 2nd place.

Watsana Thiravong was the only women who played in the tournament. She had a 96-91, 187 total in the Championship Flight.
