NIU Football

DeKALB, Ill. – Huskie Football SchedulePalooza continued Wednesday with NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier announcing that Northern Illinois University and BYU will meet in a home-and-home football series in 2018 and 2020.
The series will begin on Oct. 27, 2018 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, while the Cougars and Huskies will play at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb on Oct. 24, 2020. The 2018 game will mark the first meeting between the teams.
On Tuesday, NIU kicked off SchedulePalooza by announcing a home-and-home series with San Diego State in 2016 and 2017.
Since arriving at NIU a year ago, Frazier has made building future football schedules that will position the Huskies properly in the College Football Playoff era a priority.
“BYU is an opponent that will bring a national name and a long tradition of success to our schedule,” Frazier said. “I think this is a series that will make Huskie fans take notice and realize that we are serious about bringing top-quality opponents to Huskie Stadium and that now is the time to get involved with NIU Football.”
The Cougars, who have competed as an independent since 2011, are among the most consistent winners in college football over the past four decades. Only three programs have won more games than BYU over the past 40 seasons and BYU ranks 10th nationally in total wins since 2006. The Cougars have earned a bowl berth in each of the past nine seasons with six wins.
