Former Rochelle resident Jan Schmidt finished in 7th place yesterday at the Senior Women's U.S. Open Bowling Tournament held this week at Cherry Bowl in Rockford.
Schmidt, who now lives in Hales Corners, Wisconsin failed to qualify for the stepladder finals. She takes home a check worth $600.
Paula Vidad from Sun City, California won her 2nd straight U. S. Open Women's Senior Bowling Championship. She defeated Tish Johnson from Colorado Springs, Colorado in the finals 234-210.
The win was worth $3,000 for Vidad.
Media who cover football in the Mid-American Conference have chosen the NIU Huskies as the number 2 team in the West Division this season.
They picked Toledo to win the West in the Pre-Season poll as they return 17 starters from last year's team that went (7-5).
NIU has won the Mac West Division for the past 4 seasons.
The Media picked Bowling Green as the winner of the East Division and the Falcons to pick up a victory in the 2014 Marathon MAC Championship Game in Michigan.
NIU opens up the season on Thursday, August 28th, in DeKalb against Presbyterian College who is located in South Carolina.
