Brian Dozier singled home Eduardo Escobar in the bottom of the ninth to give the Twins a 5-4 win over the White Sox at Target Field. Escobar added two RBI in the win while Kurt Suzuki collected three hits and drove in one. Ricky Nolasco took a no-decision after five-and-a-third innings of two-run ball. Glen Perkins grabbed the win in relief after blowing the save in the top of the ninth. Daniel Webb took the loss for Chicago. Gordon Beckham and Jose Abreu tagged solo shots in the loss.

Starlin Castro hit a three-run homer as the Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 from Wrigley Field. Chris Coghlan went 2-for-3 and added a solo shot. Edwin Jackson improved to 5-and-7, after throwing five innings of three-run ball. Hector Rondon pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save as the Cubs opened a 10-game homestand with their fourth win in five games. Charlie Morton gave up six runs in six innings and earned his eighth loss of the season. Pirates rookie Gregory Polanco singled to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
