College Track

University of Chicago track athlete Michelle Dobbs of Rochelle turned in a top eight prelim time and qualified for the 800-meter final at day two of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.

Dobbs entered the national meet as the fifth seed in the 800 meters. On Friday, her prelims time of 2:11.64 made her the 6th best time and qualifier her for the final, which is due to take place today

By virtue of her spot in the final, Dobbs clinched All-American status for the second time this year. The freshman finished fourth in the 800 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in March.

Lexie Sondgeroth of Rochelle is also an All-American. The Junior from Wisconsin-Whitewater finished in 2nd place in the Long Jump with a mark of just over 19 feet.

Lexie is also in the finals in the 400 and 200 races today. She has the fastest prelim time in the 400 and 4th best time in the 200.

High School Basketball

Officials at Forreston High School have announced that Travis Ross has been named the new Head Boys Basketball Coach for the Cardinals.

He replaces Jonathan Scheniderman who resigned after 9 seasons on the sidelines.

Ross, a 1997 graduate of Forreston High School, has been with the program for the past 13 years at the junior high level along with Frosh-Soph and Varsity coaching.

He was an assistant coach on the varsity this past season.
