Cubs lose opener in Pittsburgh


Neil Walker led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a home run to give the Pirates a 1-0 win over the Cubs on Opening Day at PNC Park. Francisco Liriano and four relievers combined on a six-hit shutout for Pittsburgh. Liriano struck out 10 over six innings of four-hit ball. Bryan Morris picked up the win in relief. Jeff Samardzija  allowed five hits over seven shutout frames for Chicago. Emilio Bonifacio went 4-for-5 for the Cubs. Carlos Villanueva gave up the home run and took the loss. The Bucs' Andrew McCutchen received his NL MVP Award from Barry Bonds before the game.

Game 2 of the series is Wednesday night.
