The Chicago Bears have agreed to terms
with defensive end Jared Allen on a four-year contract.
According to NFL.com, the deal is worth $32 million, although the contract
voids to three years for $24 million. The pact includes $15.5 million in fully
guaranteed money.
Allen joins the Bears after spending the past six seasons with the Minnesota
Vikings.
In 2013, Allen recorded 52 tackles, 11 1/2 sacks, six passes defensed and two
forced fumbles. It was his seventh consecutive double-digit sack season and
eighth overall of his 10-year career.
Allen started all 16 games in each of his six seasons with the Vikings. He has
never played in fewer than 14 games in any season since entering the NFL in
2004.
Allen, who will turn 32 in April, is a five-time Pro Bowl selection and has
been voted first-team All Pro four times.
The Bears already added two pass rushers in free agency, signing Lamarr
Houston and Willie Young. Chicago did lose eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end
Julius Peppers, who signed with the rival Packers.
