NIU upsets Toledo in DeKalb

Travon Baker netted 17 points with five
rebounds as the Northern Illinois Huskies shocked the Toledo Rockets, 74-66,
in a Mid-American Conference showdown at the NIU Convocation Center.

Jordan Threloff tallied 13 points with nine rebounds for Northern Illinois
(13-14, 7-8 MAC). Aksel Bolin and Aaron Armstead each chipped in 11 points in
the win, which was the second in three games for the Huskies.

Rian Pearson led all scorers in the contest with 27 points, adding nine
rebounds for Toledo (23-5, 11-4). Julius Brown contributed 13 points and J.D.
Weatherspoon added 11 with seven boards. The loss ends a two-game Rockets
winning streak.

Northern Illinois connected on 48.1 percent of its field goal tries in the
first half, including 2-of-6 from 3-point distance, but trailed Toledo at the
half, 32-31. The Rockets hit 52.2 percent of their shot attempts in the frame,
and went 7-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Toledo's shooting accuracy dipped to 34.4 percent in the second half, which
included a dismal 2-of-15 shooting from 3-point range. The Huskies dropped
their percentage down to 42.9 in the period, but went 22-of-27 from the
charity stripe and used a nine-point swing to grab the lead away from Toledo
for the win.

The Huskies had the edge in second chance points, 18-9, and won the battle in
bench points, 18-6. Toledo edged out Northern Illinois in points off
turnovers, 25-10.
