NIU'S Jordan Lynch finishes 3rd in Heisman voting

It was a 3rd place finish Saturday night for NIU Senior Quarterback Jordan Lynch in the Heisman trophy race as Freshman Quarterback Jameis Winston of Florida State won the award.

Winston, who is the youngest player to win the Heisman at the age of 19, received 668 1st place votes. A distant 2nd in the voting was Alabama Quarterback AJ McCarron with 79 1st place votes.

Lynch totaled 558 points in the voting. He had 40 1st place votes and 149 2nd place selections.

Jordan, who sat next to Heisman winner and NFL great Barry Sanders during the evening, was the 1st NIU player to be invited to New York City for the event. With a bowl game remaining, he has passed for 26 hundred yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 19 hundred yards and 22 touchdowns so far this season.

NIU plays Utah State in the Poinsettia Bowl December 26th in San Diego.
