Day 3 in Sheley's Murder trial

It's day 3 of the jury trial for a Sterling man charged with 1st degree murder in Whiteside County.

The victim was a 93-year old man from Sterling.

33-year old Nicholas Sheley has been charged with the murder of Russell Reed during a week-long killing spree in the summer of 2008. Sheley has already been convicted in the death of a Galesburg man and sentenced to life in prison.

Holly Sheley testified for the state yesterday. She is the wife of the convicted killer.

She talked about the interactions between Reed and the couple. Holly Sheley also testified about her husband's alleged drug use.

Reed's body was found in the trunk of a car parked at Sheley's brother's home.

The Sterling man has also been charged with 6 other murders which occurred in Rock Falls and in Southern Illinois during the summer of 2008.

Testimony continues today in Whiteside County court in Morrison involving state witnesses.
