Democratic leaders want court to reject Quinn's pay appeal

House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton want the Supreme Court to reject Governor Quinn’s appeal to keep lawmakers from getting paid. Quinn filed the appeal after a judge ruled he couldn’t withhold lawmakers pay because the constitution says they’re salaries can’t be changed mid-term. Quinn argues that only applies when it comes to increasing their pay, not reducing it. Quinn wants the lawmakers to solve the pension crisis before accepting a paycheck but they just received two-months were of back pay, with interest, over the dispute.
