A Chana man made his 1st court appearance Monday following a car vs school bus crash in rural Rochelle last Thursday afternoon.

66-year old Neel Hanke has been charged with the Class 2 felony offense of aggravated DUI.

The crash took place at the intersection of Hemstock and Center Roads.

Illinois State Police report that the sports utility vehicle driven by Hanke was west bound on Hemstock Road and failed to stop. The Rochelle school bus was traveling north bound on Center Road.

There were a total of 9 students along with the driver on the bus. 2 of the teens received treatment for minor injuries at Rochelle Community Hospital.

Hanke was also treated for his injuries at hospitals in Rochelle and Rockford.

In court yesterday, bond remains at $100,000. Hanke returns to Ogle County court on Friday for an arraignment.

He remains in jail in lieu of bond.
