Ogle County officials have upgraded the charge against a Chana man following a car vs school bus crash in rural Rochelle Thursday afternoon.
66-year old Neel Hanke has now been charged with the Class 2 felony offense of aggravated DUI. He was originally arrested on the charge of DUI following the crash.
The accident took place at the intersection of Hemstock and Center Roads.
Illinois State Police report that the sports utility vehicle driven by Hanke was west bound on Hemstock Road and failed to stop. The vehicle crashed into a Rochelle School bus which was north bound on Center Road. The bus ended up in the ditch following the collision.
There were a total of 9 students along with the driver on the bus. 2 of the teens received treatment for minor injuries at Rochelle Community Hospital.
Hanke was 1st taken by ambulance for treatment at RCH. He was later transported to a facility in Rockford.
Ogle County State's Attorney Mike Rock said that Hanke does have 2 prior convictions of DUI on his record.
He is currently in the Ogle County jail in Oregon in lieu of a $100,000 bond. Hanke will appear before a judge today.
