Kids in Illinois are fatter than kids in most other states. A study puts Illinois at number nine for highest obesity rates for kids between 10 and 17. The study defined obesity as an excessive amount of body fat compared to lean body mass. For high school kids, Hispanic males are leading the pack with a 19-point-two percentage rate of obesity. African American women are a close second for the same age group with an 18-point-two percent obesity rate. The most recent numbers are from a 2011 study which was cited in the 2013 Trust for America’s Health report.
