Rochelle Municipal Utilities will be performing routine SMOKE TESTING of the sewer lines today on Irene Avenue, Gary Street, Garfield Drive, Avenue E and South 12th Street. On Thursday, August 22nd, the testing will be performed on Short Court, Sunnymeade, the 1000 block of North 2nd Street and McConaughy Avenue between Second Street and Turkington Terrace. RMU has contracted with Visu-Sewer to perform the SMOKE TESTING and they will be in the specific areas from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Smoke Testing sewer lines will assist our inspection crews in locating breaks and defects in the sewer system. The smoke used in the testing is NON-TOXIC, NON-STAINING, HAS NO ODOR, AND WHITE TO GRAY IN COLOR AND CREATES NO FIRE HAZARD.
While the test is being performed in your area, you may see smoke coming from vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground. The smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dried up drain traps.
RMU recommends the homeowner pour a gallon of water into each drain trap of floors, sinks, showers, and tubs if they are home during our Smoke Testing. If smoke enters your home there is a good reason to assume that sewer gases may also be entering your home. If you are not home and discover smoke when you return, please call 815-562-4155.
