The Ogle County board approved a resolution last night making it "Brian Sawlsville Day" for August 20th, 2013. The Iraq Army Veteran from Rochelle also celebrated his 29th birthday on Tuesday as he started the Pledge of Allegiance for the meeting in Oregon.
He told Newstalk 1060 that he was very surprised about the resolution for Ogle County.
Sawlsville graduated from RTHS in 2003. He received a medical discharge from the Army after he was injured during an explosion in Iraq in April of 2007. He received the title of Sergeant in the Army along with the Purple Heart and 2 Bronze Stars.
Sawlsville said that is it very special that people in the area and around the United States remember the veterans who fought for this country.
Sawlsville currently works at Focus House in rural Rochelle.
