Health officials don't expect West Nile virus to be a major problem in Illinois this year

The West Nile virus is starting to show up at different areas around the state with birds testing positive for the disease.

There have been no human reports or fatalities at the present time.

During yesterday's program "Let The People Know", Ogle County Health Administrator Doreen O'Brien said that she would be surprised if the West Nile virus was a major problem in Illinois this year. She said that this Spring and Summer has not been dry like last year.

O'Brien will also get a new employee starting on Monday thanks to the Center of Disease Control. Ogle County will have a Public Health Associate for the next 2 years. The person's salary and benefits will be paid through the CDC

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoons at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and re-broadcast Saturday mornings at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday mornings at 6 on "The Coyote", 102.3FM.
