Rochelle City Council Meeting

An increase in the fee for collecting landscape waste along with the Hillcrest sanitary sewer project topped the discussion last night by city officials in Rochelle.

Residents will see an increase on their waste collection bill at $3 a month starting on June 1st. It will now total $11.36 a month since landscape waste is no longer accepted at landfills around the country.

Northern Illinois Disposal will also be collecting waste only 2 days a week in Rochelle rather than the current 4 days in the near future.

A bid of just over $245,000 was approved for sidewalk work this summer. The project includes Westview Drive, Carrie Avenue, along with 11th, 14th, 15th, and 16th streets.

The council approved the funding of $100,000 for the construction of the Hillcrest sanitary sewer connection to the Rochelle system. The money will be recovered through household connection fees in the village. Water and Water Reclamation Superintendent Kathy Cooper....(Time: (:36), out: Rochelle's).

The 1st phase of the project in Hillcrest involves about 25 homes on Jeffrey Avenue and River Road.

City officials approved the purchase of a utility tractor and mower for the airport at a total cost of $41,600 with trade-in along with renaming Avenue "F" "Elliott's Way" after former city employee Don Elliott.

The council met for an hour to talk about personnel and the purchase or lease of property. No action was taken.
