Retired teachers say they're gearing up for a fight against both the Senate and House plans for pension reform. Bob Pinkerton with the Illinois Retired Teachers Association says both plans ask retirees to accept a reduction in their annual pay raises, which is unacceptable. He says the state constitution clearly says retirement benefits can't be diminished and there's no questioning that both plans will do that. Pinkerton says they were never asked to come to the bargaining table to draft an acceptable bill. He says they'll file suit immediately if Governor Quinn signs either of the bills into law.
