The Illinois and Mississippi Rivers may be receding in some areas, but IEMA Director Jonathon Monken says the worst isn't over. He says the rivers will likely be impacted once snow starts to melt in other parts of the Midwest. The direct impact will be felt in the Quad Cities and the Metro East as early as next Friday, May 3rd. He says the extra water will force backups on the Illinois and Rock Rivers, which could mean more flooding in areas along those rivers.
The tax deadline for businesses and people in disaster areas has been extended. Governor Pat Quinn has pushed the date back to October 31st, to give them time to focus on rebuilding. The extension only applies to those who file monthly, quarterly or annual returns that would've been due on the 19th of this month.
