A 2nd Fly-In, Drive-In event is scheduled for Rochelle this summer which will take place at the Municipal Airport.
Airport Manager Mark DelHotal said that the activities will center around the Chicagoland Skydiving Center on JUly 6th. It will include food and music along with a fireworks show.
The airport will be closed a half hour prior to the fireworks show which will go 15 to 20 minutes. They will be shot off about 250 feet north of the runway. This will also be the 2nd fireworks show in Rochelle as residents celebrate the July 4th holiday.
The 17th Fly-In, Drive-In event will be held the following month in August.
The runway extension project has been delayed due grant information from the FAA. DelHotal hopes that construction can begin some time in July or August.
Construction was scheduled to begin in June for the extension of the runway at Koritz field to 5,000 feet.
Bids will go out for the taxiway project on June 14th. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall with paving in the Spring of 2014.
