Governor Quinn is asking FEMA to help out with flood assessments in Illinois. It's the first step in making sure people have the proper paperwork filled out in order to get federal assistance. Severe storms caused major damage last week, leaving some towns underwater and forcing people to leave their homes. And the worst may not be over -- rain is in the forecast for the next several days.
Over 40 counties have been placed on the disaster list by Governor Quin which includes Ogle and DeKalb.
More than 80 counties have asked the state for help after storms ravaged their communities. Since last Thursday, more than 240 IDOT workers have helped deliver sandbags, plastic, pumps, hoses, and trucks to communities. The Department of Corrections has put 600 inmates to work filling sandbags. And the Illinois State Police is keeping a close eye in interstates and other roads to make sure drivers are safe.
