3 people suffered serious injuries this past weekend, which included 2 Rochelle residents, following an alcohol related 2-vehicle head-on crash on Route 38, about a mile east of the Ogle County Line.
Reports indicate that a minvan driven by 46-year old Richard Jones of DeKalb was east bound on Route 38 when the vehicle swerved into the west bound lane of traffic. A collission occurred wth a 2001 Buick Sedan driven by 50-year old Lucila Train of Rochelle.
Both drivers along with a passenger in Train's car were entrapped and had to be extricated from their vehicles by fire department personnel.
Train was transported by ambulance to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb with serious injuries.
Jones along with a passenger in Train's vehicle, 8-year old Gebahlt Bustamante of Rochelle, were taken by ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Emergency personnel were working through a thunderstorm during the accident which included lighting, hail, rain, and high winds. Departments from Rochelle, Creston, Malta, and DeKalb responded to the scene.
The weather was so bad that emergency helicopters could not respond to the scene.
DeKalb County Sheriff's police arrested Jones on the charge of DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident along with improper lane usage.
Traffic was backed on Route 38 for a period of time as the accident took place at around 8:50 Saturday night.
